Car Crash Sends Mother and Two Children to Hospital

A woman and her two children were sent to the hospital after a horrific car crash in Burley, Idaho early Saturday morning. The car accident occurred around 10 a.m., involving two vehicles and two young children, one of which had to be air transported twice.

Carolina Rodriguez, 25, of Paul, was speeding down State Highway 27 in a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse before failing to notice a slowed 2016 Western Star truck in front of her. Rodriguez struck the bed of the truck and sent her vehicle flying off the side of the road, landing on its roof.

Idaho State Police reported that the mother was wearing a seat belt but failed to properly restrain her children in car seats. One of the children was ejected during the car crash.

The current condition of Anthony J. King, 24, of Heyburn, the driver of the Western Star truck, is unknown at this time. But the woman and her two children were immediately flown and taken by ambulance to close-by hospitals.

Rodriguez and one of the children were transported by helicopter to Portneuf Medical Center, where later on that same child was then sent down to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The other child was taken by ground transportation to Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.

The north and south lanes of Highway 27 were closed for several hours on Saturday.

The car accident is still under investigation by Idaho State Police with the assistance of local authorities, including Idaho Transportation Department and Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office.
